I found these churn dash blocks in a vintage shop. They are hand-sewn, very uneven and quirky. My first challenge was to stabilize the edges and press them flat. Then when I sewed on the sashing strips, I used variations in the sashing width to make up for un-evenness in the blocks so the finished quilt would lie flat.

This, hanging in the backyard, looks to me like stained glass. Something about how the pattern is backlit, discernible pattern but uneven and clearly not made by machine. So happy it makes you smile!
