Spring Baby Quilt

A former co-worker of mine being due to have a baby late May this year, I decide to make her a quilt.  I use a partially-plundered charm pack I got secondhand, supplemented with some scraps from my stash.  It goes together in three nights: 1 to make the pinwheels, 1 to make the borders, [a fabric shopping expedition to find the backing], and 1 to quilt it.  Though it was quick and easy, I am delighted with the colors, and proud of my quilting.
This photo shows the corner of the quilt, already basted to its franken-batting, laid on the backing fabric to compare the pinks.  The backing is from Riley Blake Designs, which is the third time recently that I've chosen something from that company for a project.

I think that without the green, the red and white pinwheels look like peppermint candies!  But with the light green, the whole thing takes on a sweet springy air, perfect for a spring baby.

As I usually do for small quilts, I sandwich it envelope style and turn it, so I don't need to bind the edges.  Below is the front and back after quilting.  Scalloped lines from corner to corner to play up the pinwheel design.

I do one more line of stitch-in-the-ditch between the two green borders, but forget to get a picture.

The Quilt Inspector approves. (And this is why we wash before we give it away!)
Finally, I wash and dry it; it crinkles marvelously!  The finished size is 32" square.  Unexpectedly, the new mom has an emergency pre-term delivery, meaning she goes on maternity leave early and I can't leave the quilt at her workplace.  So I ship it to her with a card.  May mom and baby be blessed!
