Stash-Building -- or My Autumn Sewing List

From top to bottom, left to right: brown cotton, quilting expo brochure, maroon rayon, crazy artichoke print with zipper, jodhpurs pattern, bustier pattern, sew-through elastic, my receipt, and a shirt pattern for my sister.
See this table full of goodies?  This is the result of a visit to the fabric store.  The remnants sections is always my downfall... I see a bit of fabric, and I think "That will be such a cool shirt/skirt/tea-cozy/whatever", and the next thing you know I buy it, and my to-sew list grows.

Now, I don't regret a single purchase in this pile, but as one of my goals in starting this blog was to use it to organize and keep me accountable, here I shall make a list of my autumn goals.

AUTUMN 2017 SEWING Goals

In no particular order:
  • My brother's Aloha shirt(s)!  I sent him the RTW shirt that I had rubbed off, and he said it fit him!  So now I have a workable pattern.  Last year I promised the shirts to him for his birthday...  Well, I never said which birthday, did I?  Time to get the darn things done.
  • A bustier based on Butterick 5797, view C (pictured below).  Last week I made a cute top with a lace yoke, and then realized that I can't wear a lace yoke with bra straps showing!  So I've made more work for myself.
  • Skeleton leaf blazer.  I had fun making my sister's denim blazer, and when I found a nice hardy cotton with a large-scale pattern of skeleton leaves on it I bought it to make one for myself.  And just recently, I picked up this really neat brown cotton with woven plus signs in it (pictured below), which I think will make a cool facing for the blazer.  I want to wear it when the weather turns cool.

... AND A CLIENT

This is a fun, if short-notice project... an Ahsoko Tano costume for a woman attending the Rose City Comic Con!  It'll mean making a fitted mini-dress with cut-outs at back and bosom, a pair of gaiters, and (possibly, time permitting) fingerless gauntlet gloves.  I'll wait until after my client wears it to post the making-of details, but for now, suffice to say I'm busy as a beaver working on this challenge.

DREAM COAT

I hesitate to put this on my to-do list, because I know it'll be a big project, and will stretch my skills, and I might not finish it this fall.  But it is a dream project... check out this Vera Venus pattern for a 1940's style jacket.  Now imagine it in a green brocade... a subtle one with a simple diagonal grid pattern.  Right?!  It needs to happen.
Now... off to work on my brother's shirts!  I'm doing the two batiks at the same time.

I know! The lines! The structure! The fullness in the back!

That coat is so you! It will look really nice, especially in green. I know that you will be able to do it, even if it takes a while. My settee took time, but it is finished! Have fun.
